12 Pregnancy Do’s and Don’ts

Pregnancy comes with great responsibility. Becoming pregnant is only the beginning of a new phase in your life but it’s a very vital stage in your child’s health. Some expectant mothers do researches to really know the do’s and don’ts during pregnancy. To help you better apprehend your limits while pregnant; allow me to share a list of do’s and don’ts.

The Pregnancy Do’s

  1. See your OB regularly for Prenatal Check-ups
  2. Take folic acid throughout your pregnancy to avoid birth defects.
  3. Drink water frequently.
  4. Stay active, unless your doctor says otherwise because you have delicate pregnancy.
  5. Observe proper hygiene. Always wash hands often especially after going to the bathroom.
  6. Sleep at least 8 hours every night.
  7. Always resting on your left side because it helps blood flow to you and your baby. Try to use pillows for support and get comfortable.
  8. Avoid getting stressed and always seek help for heavy household chores or tasks.
  9. Get your flu shot. Pregnant women can get very sick from the flu and may need medical care.
  10. Join an online childbirth class
  11. Always wear a seatbelt when in the car.
  12. Eat a variety of healthy foods only

The Pregnancy Don’ts

  1. Avoid using toxic and full of chemicals cleaning products and paints.
  2. Don’t drink too much caffeine, smoke, drink alcohol, and use illegal drugs. Doing these bad vices raises the risk of a miscarriage, infant death, and preterm birth.
  3. Don’t eat fish that are high in mercury, including swordfish, king mackerel, shark, and tilefish.
  4. Never clean or change a cat’s litter box. Doing so can put you at risk for toxoplasmosis, an infection that can be very harmful to your baby.
  5. Don’t take hot baths, use hot tubs or saunas. It can cause you to faint.
  6. Don’t use scented feminine care products as they contain chemicals that can irritate your vaginal area and increase your risk of a UTI.
  7. Avoid X-rays, and let your doctor or dentist know you’re pregnant.
  8. Avoid eating raw or undercooked meat, poultry, fish, sushi or shellfish.
  9. Don’t eat unpasteurized milk products. It’s not a trusted source of calcium since it hasn’t been heated to kill bacteria that could make you ill.
  10. Don’t be lethargic and unmotivated. Try to be enthusiastic about your pregnancy journey.
  11. Don’t do tasks that can cause you stress and fatigue.
  12. Don’t be shy to ask your OB if you’re safe to have sex with your spouse while pregnant.
