12 Pregnancy Do’s and Don’ts
Pregnancy comes with great responsibility. Becoming pregnant is only the beginning of a new phase in your life but it’s a very vital stage in your child’s health. Some expectant mothers do researches to really know the do’s and don’ts during pregnancy. To help you better apprehend your limits while pregnant; allow me to share a list of do’s and don’ts.
The Pregnancy Do’s
- See your OB regularly for Prenatal Check-ups
- Take folic acid throughout your pregnancy to avoid birth defects.
- Drink water frequently.
- Stay active, unless your doctor says otherwise because you have delicate pregnancy.
- Observe proper hygiene. Always wash hands often especially after going to the bathroom.
- Sleep at least 8 hours every night.
- Always resting on your left side because it helps blood flow to you and your baby. Try to use pillows for support and get comfortable.
- Avoid getting stressed and always seek help for heavy household chores or tasks.
- Get your flu shot. Pregnant women can get very sick from the flu and may need medical care.
- Join an online childbirth class
- Always wear a seatbelt when in the car.
- Eat a variety of healthy foods only
The Pregnancy Don’ts
- Avoid using toxic and full of chemicals cleaning products and paints.
- Don’t drink too much caffeine, smoke, drink alcohol, and use illegal drugs. Doing these bad vices raises the risk of a miscarriage, infant death, and preterm birth.
- Don’t eat fish that are high in mercury, including swordfish, king mackerel, shark, and tilefish.
- Never clean or change a cat’s litter box. Doing so can put you at risk for toxoplasmosis, an infection that can be very harmful to your baby.
- Don’t take hot baths, use hot tubs or saunas. It can cause you to faint.
- Don’t use scented feminine care products as they contain chemicals that can irritate your vaginal area and increase your risk of a UTI.
- Avoid X-rays, and let your doctor or dentist know you’re pregnant.
- Avoid eating raw or undercooked meat, poultry, fish, sushi or shellfish.
- Don’t eat unpasteurized milk products. It’s not a trusted source of calcium since it hasn’t been heated to kill bacteria that could make you ill.
- Don’t be lethargic and unmotivated. Try to be enthusiastic about your pregnancy journey.
- Don’t do tasks that can cause you stress and fatigue.
- Don’t be shy to ask your OB if you’re safe to have sex with your spouse while pregnant.
